Hours after announcing his retirement to the world from the Green Bay Packers, quarterback Brett Favre issued a one-word statement to the Southern Mississippi Daily Shit Rag that simply said “Psych!”

Immediate calls to Favre and Favre’s agent was not returned, although ESPN is reporting that Favre’s brother has confirmed the statement, saying that Favre was playing a practical joke on Al Jones of the Biloxi Sun-Herald who first reported the news.

“He was just kidding,” Scott Favre said. “He was bored. I mean, there’s nothing to do in Mississippi.”

But the news of the faux retirement spread like an STD from a whore, causing news outlets in Wisconsin to crank out special editions and others to prepare retrospectives.Most of these news outlets have refused to change their plans, unless Favre himself confirms the fact.“Even if he’s not retiring, he’s retiring, according to this newspaper,” said Martin Kaiser, managing editor of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
