Kucinich tackles Obama at debate, blames “acid flashback”

DES MOINES –Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich made history as the first Presidential candidate arrested during a live debate when he headbutted fellow candidate Barack Obama at the State Historical Museum Tuesday afternoon.

Screaming a defiant “BOO YEAH” at the audience as state troopers and Secret Service personnel attempted to hold him back from headbutting the Senator twice, the midget-esque Congressman was taken to the Polk County Jail on charges of assault, battery and resisting arrest.

Kucinich refused to be bailed out and remains at the jail, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Department.

Obama, who sustained a concussion and was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment, spent the night in the hospital for observation and will be released later today.

He briefly lost consciousness when Kucinich used his unnaturally large skull to “headbutt” the Illinois Senator after Obama questioned his plan for universal health care.

Kucinich’s campaign released a statement denying their candidate’s drug use, although Kucinich babbled incoherently at reporters outside the county jail about his “acid flashbacks from ‘Nam.”Kucinich – the former Mayor of Cleveland and an outspoken pacifist – has never been to Vietnam, nor did he ever serve in the military, according to the Department of Defense.

Obama has not pressed charges against Kucinich, perhaps because the incident has been a boost to his campaign in Iowa.

An Associated Press poll showed Obama jumping ahead of frontrunner Hillary Clinton by at least five percentage points by night’s end.

“We don’t want to say we’re happy the Senator got head butted on national TV, but we’re not exactly crying,” said campaign spokesman Bill Burton. “The Senator is OK. That’s what’s important. If he had ended up in surgery or died, this would be a different story.”

Obama isn’t the only one seeing numbers go up.

Kucinich – ranked near the bottom of the Democratic field in Iowa – is suddenly in third place and ahead of John Edwards according to the latest USA Today* Poll.

“I think Kucinich’s image as a pansy-ass liberal has definitely been keeping him down in the polls,” said Prof. Henry David Charles, a Presidential campaign expert at the University of Northern Iowa. “Head-butting makes him seem more manly, more like a dude you want to hang out with. I think that’s really resonating with the people of Iowa.”

Kucinich is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on the charges on Friday.
