McCain blasts Obama for dodging Vietnam

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., scolds presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, like a little boy for "dodging" Vietnam.

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., told a hand-picked group of Pennsylvania veterans Thursday that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, faked a broken arm to avoid serving in the Vietnam War in 1968.

“The American people will have a hard time trusting a president on foreign policy who himself ducked serving his country during a time of war,” McCain said. “While I was eating my own feces at a prison camp, Senator Obama was sipping margaritas on the beaches of Hawaii.”

The Obama campaign reacted quickly, insisting the junior senator from Illinois was 7 years old at the height of the war. They did admit he was admitted to the hospital as a toddler to get his tonsils out, but insisted he was too young to serve anyway and the hospitalization was not an excuse to get out of duty.

Shortly after the speech, the McCain campaign began circulating photos of Obama circa 1969, pointing out the lack of cast around his arm. An inscription on the back of the photo states, “Barry. 8 years old 7/27/69.”

McCain served five years in a Vietnamese prison camp, or about 30 years before Rudy Giuliani was mayor of New York City during 9/11.

“I served my country as a young man and will continue to serve when I am president of the United States,” McCain said to cheers.

He then left in time for his 30-minute nap and afternoon snack.

Meanwhile, Obama aides insisted Hawaii was Obama’s birthplace, making photos of Obama on the beach a more likely occurrence.

“Do you want a president who served on the coast of Vietnam or the beaches of Hawaii? You decide,” McCain said.

Obama’s Democratic rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton, was quick to point out Wednesday that women were not allowed on Vietnam battlefields.

McCain backed up that claim, saying he saw “nothing but dudes” over the course of his five years in a Vietnamese prison camp.

Giuliani, who backed McCain after dropping out of the race, said he could not understand why anyone could not see how McCain’s Vietnam credentials make him the ideal presidential candidate.

“The only thing you could have asked for is more experience with 9/11,” Giuliani said. “I’m confident that my experience in that area will serve the party and the nation as president, lobbyist or what have you.”

  1. Wow! Senator McCain is REALLY trying to fill G-Dub’s shoes, isn’t he. The DUMBASS shoes, that is. Time for somebody to retire! What an idiot!

  2. Wow Deb.

  3. The truth eventually becomes whatever is said loudly & repeatedly.

  4. this guy running for Joker of the White House.

  5. So, what McCain is really saying: Enlistment ages need to be dropped to 7 or younger. Women need to be allowed on the battlefield (already done - see silver star earned in Iraq recently by a 19 year old girl). I suppose our new War President could begin the draft at age 7 and ensure our country is protected from possibly Pokemon invaders. Don’t forget to change Uncle Sam to Spongebob and I’m sure this campaign can have legs.
