Bass player Stretch was found in his North Hollywood home Thursday, dead from natural causes. Medical Examiner Mika Daver explains, “Upon examining the body, I found his insides were, well mush. He just simply shriveled up and died.”
Stretch gained fame during the late 80s as the bass player for rock group The California Raisins. The band first hit the airwaves with its remake of Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard it Through the Grapevine.” While they went on to release multiple singles and even starred in a TV series, they never lived up to the hype of their first single.
It’s been widely noted that Stretch fell into the evils of the Rock n’ Roll lifestyle, which most likely led to his demise.
“The drugs and alcohol just took a toll on his body,” Daver explained.
Stretch had multiple run-ins with the law, his last coming Aug. 3, 2001 when he was arrested for indecent exposure at the premiere of Rush Hour 2. Witnesses say that Stretch revealed himself while yelling, “I’m a California Raisin Biotch.”
Although Stretch will be the first of The California Raisin’s to be pronounced dead, many believe former Raisins drummer Beebop, who has been missing for two years, to be deceased. He was last seen entering a Kellogg’s manufacturing plant in Clearfield, Utah.
Stretch’s last dying wish was to be laid to rest in an Einstein Bros. Cinnamon Raisin Bagel. No date has been set for the ceremony.
