WGA Makes Idol and Seacreast “Out”

HOLLYWOOD, CA – Nielson Ratings reported this spring that ratings juggernaut American Idol has become the lowest rated show of the year.  Shocking to many, as the karaoke-style talent show has been a mainstay on the top of the ratings chart since it’s inception in 2001.

Executive producer Nigel Lithgow places the blame evenly on the striking Writers Guild of America (WGA) and on his own ignorance in maintaining pretty-man Ryan Seacrest as the host.  “The man is a robot.  The only things he can do well is read a teleprompter and use a flat iron.  We should have seen this coming.”

With the WGA still on strike, the producers will have no choice but to allow Seacrest to introduce and chat with the performers candidly.  “This is really disappointing,” judge Simon Cowell lamented, “I mean, even Paula [Abdul] can string together a series of words without someone writing for her!”

“Yeah!” Abdul was be quick to add, “As long as I’m sober anyways.”

The low point for the show came when Seacrest forgots the show’s signature introduction: “This…is American Idol!”  While the awkward silence of the audience and girlish cries of Seacrest sprinting off stage will likely become some of the most overplayed footage of the year on late night talk shows and Youtube.com, the producers aren’t laughing.  “He has been saying the same damn phrase for six seasons!” Lithogow said, “What an idiot.  Where’s [Brian] Dunkleman when you need him?”

Dunkleman was not be able to be reached for comment at the time of this printing.

So, it will seem that until the WGA get what they want out of their contracts, Seacrest really is out.  If only he was be able to remember to say his own tagline.
